Formulating a national strategy for public transit, the Development Road project, integrating the Kurdistan Region’s transport network with the Iraqi federal transport system, and coordinating with international banks to establish a shared vision for transportation and infrastructure connectivity were the central themes of a meeting between Vision Foundation and the Ministry of Construction.
The meeting took place on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in Erbil between the Vision Foundation Strategic Studies and several advisers along with the Directorate General of Technical Affairs of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Construction and Housing. Discussions centered on drafting a national strategy for the public transport sector and the Ministry of Construction and Housing's 10-year plan, while also examining the Development Road project alongside efforts and mechanisms to link the Kurdistan Region's transport network to this strategic initiative.
Both Vision Foundation and the Ministry of Construction aligned on the importance of connecting the Kurdistan Region’s public transit system with the Iraqi federal transport network. Within this framework, emphasis was placed on the necessity of sustained dialogue and coordination with the Iraqi federal government, the World Bank, and relevant stakeholders to forge a unified vision for transportation and infrastructure integration.
Previously, the Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies released a research paper on the Development Road project, examining its significance, opportunities, and obstacles across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, while outlining the associated political, security, and economic challenges.
