Steps Toward Addressing Water and Climate Change Issues across the governorates of Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, as well as the Garmian and Raperin administrations, were discussed during a focus group organized by Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies; the proposed solutions will be submitted to the relevant authorities.

On wendesday, October7, 2026, Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies hosted a focus group on water and climate change, with the participation of several government officials, representatives of environmental organizations, and private companies.

During the session, participants addressed key challenges such as industrial emissions and factory waste, sewage, the rising number of vehicles, deforestation, the shrinking of green spaces and forests, the scarcity of dams and retention ponds, and deteriorating drinking water quality, with particular emphasis on the critical problems facing the Tanjaro and Bazian areas.

The solutions presented during the discussion included recycling and treating wastewater for agricultural use and fertilizer production, raising public awareness on water conservation and environmental protection, tightening regulatory oversight on factories, and converting waste into energy to power industrial facilities.

The outcomes of this focus group will be developed into a policy paper published by Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies to deliver actionable recommendations and proposals to the relevant authorities.
